CANNAS ARESTIS
This site created with the idea of bringing more people closer to the world of Launeddas, the typical Sardinian instrument, and to help them understand its richness and complexity.
Launeddas, which we like to call “cannas arestis” (from the Sardinian word, rebellious/unruly reeds), are a fascinating and challenging instrument. Building and playing them requires skill and dedication. When you think you have figured out how they work and have succeeded in tuning them, they often rebel, revealing their wild and untamable nature.
Because of this very characteristic, we believe that Launeddas represent Sardinia more than any other cultural element. To the untrained eye they may look like three simple pieces of reed, but only by trying them can one appreciate their complexity.
Courage is needed not only to begin studying them, but more importantly to continue after understanding the true challenge they represent.

Futuristic
At a time when we are increasingly aware of the need to respect the earth that hosts us, Launeddas prove to be the tool of the future.
100% biodegradable, they are made from reeds, beeswax, pitch and string. They do not need electricity, emit a loud sound and do not need to be amplified.
Their sound has spanned the millennia and still lives on thanks to those who dedicate their lives to them.
